John McCain's Decision on Judge Sonya Sotomayor
Senator John McCain dramatically demonstrated his politics-first decision against the historic confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
It’s fascinating to examine his explanation. He unbelievably said his sole reason for this vote is that Ms Sotomayor “demonstrates a lack of respect for the popular will”. Think about it, his reasoning is that her judicial judgment should be driven by “popular will.” What happened to the genuinely conservative principle that judicial judgment should be based not on “popular will” but on dictates of the law?
As the desperate and floundering presidential candidate demonstrated last year, McCain’s selection of a thoroughly unprepared vice presidential partner came down to a decision based solely on his political needs, not the nation’s.
By voting against an undeniably qualified Hispanic woman with more judicial experience than any of the sitting members of the Supreme Court, the Senator once more reveals that he’ll vote his perceived political self interest to survive in a State where so much animosity is being generated against Hispanics.
Shame on you Senator McCain. Your faulty judgment raises serious questions of your commitment to serving the best interests of the public when in conflict with your political career.
Sincerely,
