Response to Mayor's Committee Report on Op. Order 1.4
It seems as though mayor Phil Gordon's plans to use the police as ethnic cleansers and give them the power to be judge, jury and executioner--just as long as you are brown-skinned and speak with an accent--has been scaled back a teeny bit, probably due to the outrage--and the cost--that his weaselly cave-in to the neo-Nazis of Arizona has caused.
And you can comment on it! Information below will tell you what the completely unnecessary change in policy is and how you can make your feelings known to the mayor's office.
The new proposal from the ersatz Democrat mayor's panel of expert shills who were appointed to rubber-stamp Gordon's cowardly cave-in was made up of three former Republican prosecutors and one Democrat Tio-Taco former prosecuter added to make it look like the panel had some Hispanic input. But we know that the panel was all pro-forma. And where were the real lawyers? Like civil rights lawyers, defense attorney's and community advocates on this panel? None of those types were asked to serve on the mayor's panel of expert shills. So there was no real discussion, no real listening. I mean they sat through the town hall Mary Rose Wilcox sponsored. But Grant Woods showed his bias early in the meeting by making the comments that he made and by being on KTAR radio at a later date sympathetically listening to the concerns of their racist listeners. In short, this panel was a political dog-and-pony show. It was a farce. Perhaps I'm being unfair to certain individuals, but with no information to go on but the results of this panel's "work," I can conclude nothing else at this moment.
We now have a new, bad policy in place that is just one step forward for the return of Jim Crow and one step backward fro mankind. And all because the cowardly mayor could not stand up to the white supremacists who kept calling his office demanding that the police be used like Sheriff Joe uses his deputies: to harass Hispanics.
Of course, this idea also appealed to the kloset klanners in the police department who were seeking to do ethnic cleansing, just like Sheriff Joe's boys, regardless of whether what they did destroyed lives and families and hurt businesses. I guess these types of cops love the power rush of being judge, jury and executioner all to keep America safe from brown-skinned people.
Now the new policy isn't as bad as it could have been, but that's like saying the Titanic disaster could have been worse. In any case, I guess mayor Phil won't get to please all of his new-found fascist friends as much as he had planned, just mostly as he planned.
But he and his good ol' boy, confederate-flag-worshipping contingent on the police force will be able to do just enough racial profiling and deprivation of rights without a trial to make their fascist little hearts happy.
Lest I sound like I'm condemning all police officers, I do understand that there are a number of police officers who understand that this change is policy is bad and who do not want to be doing immigration work because they are interested in policing, not ethnic cleansing. They also understand that this will waste valuable resources that could be used in fighting real crime, not make-believe crime like crossing an imaginary line to find work. But let's face it: the police union bosses pushed for this change, so we have to infer that they must be representing the will of the majority of police officers, which indicates to the Hispanic community that the majority of police officers are not our friends and could care less about our rights. But most of us have known that for generations. We had hoped that this had changed.
And what the police union was seeking by demanding this change was just what Sheriff Joe had been doing, which is the essence of an un-American activity: they want the power to arrest people and remove them from our community without the trouble of a trial, without the trouble of having to prove that they were guilty. Imagine: the police who want this power are really seeking to be judge, jury and executioner all in one fell swoop. And that is a real threat to our American way of life in a way that somebody crossing the border just to work here is not and never can be.
